World Bank Cafeteria

GHT provided MEP engineering services for the complete renovation of the World Bank’s Cafeteria, a dynamic facility that welcomes and serves nearly 10,000 people each day.

The renovation’s primary objective was to transform the previously outdated cafeteria into a modern, inviting space, that directly supports the World Bank’s vision for enhanced amenities for employees and visitors. Located within the expansive Main Complex where alternative dining options are unavailable, the Cafeteria had to remain fully operational throughout construction. This necessity made the project an especially complex occupied renovation that demanded meticulous planning, innovative engineering solutions, and carefully phased execution to ensure seamless service and minimal disruption.

One of the most significant challenges of the project involved upgrading the MEP systems across 10 distinct food stations, each presenting unique equipment configurations and operational requirements. GHT addressed the kitchen equipment relocations, improved life safety systems, and updated electrical distribution, while ensuring the food service functionality was uninterrupted.

The renovation also included a comprehensive lighting transformation that dramatically elevated the ambiance of the Cafeteria while maintaining uninterrupted daily operations. The thoughtfully designed lighting introduced increased brightness and a sophisticated, welcoming atmosphere to support the World Bank’s vision for the space. As part of the lighting improvements, the lighting control system was modernized, and the fire alarm system was enhanced. In conjunction with infrastructure improvements behind the scenes, these enhancements resulted in a more efficient, dependable, and visually striking facility that enriches the dining experience for all who visit.
