Implementing Controls in High Performance Commercial Interiors

1 AIA Learning Unit (GHT-ME-091713)

Senior electrical engineers will provide an overview of what controls can help them achieve a high performance design; seven design considerations we loop in to ensure a successful project; and strategies for getting clients on board. The presenters will provide ideas for overcoming implementation challenges, including balancing code requirements with client requests and how to achieve what the end user is trying to accomplish within budget constraints. A discussion of LEDs vs. Fluorescents with controls will also be included. Finally, case studies of recent LEED Platinum projects that utilized controls will help bring the concepts to life for the audience.

  • Learning Objective 1: Understand how implementing controls can help achieve a high performance commercial interior fit-out
  • Learning Objective 2: Become familiar with best practices for implementing controls
  • Learning Objective 3: Be able to communicate to clients how the use of controls can help achieve their design and operational needs, as well as code requirements and budget goals
  • Learning Objective 4: Become familiar with the cost considerations of LED vs. fluorescent when controls are factored into the equation
