Lutron’s Washington, DC Commercial Experience Center showcases lighting innovations that support LEED certification. The 3,000 SF office includes a training room, conference room, workstations, offices, storage rooms and display area. The center is a prime training destination for architects, engineers, and facility operators to learn how Lutron’s lighting controls can reduce energy use and support sustainable design.
The project achieved a certification level of Gold under the LEED for Commercial Interiors™ rating system. 19 of the project’s 63 credits were attained through lighting controls. Lutron’s products helped the design team keep the lighting power density under 0.85 w/SF and achieve a variety of sustainable strategies, including:
- Controlling all lights and shades in the center with the Quantam Total Light Management™ System
- Eliminating glare on workspaces with Hyperion™ technology that responds to the angle of the sun to automatically adjusts the Sivoia® QS shades
- Visually demonstrating the energy savings achieved by the interaction of sensors, shades, and dimming ballasts via Quantam® GreenGlance software
To optimize the overall performance of the space, GHT also provided sustainable MEP engineering design for daylight harvesting, energy-efficient demand control ventilation, and plumbing fixtures that reduce water use by 20%.
