The Hyatt Dulles was the first to receive membership in the International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) with the creation of its new Executive Meeting Center (EMC). Existing interior spaces were renovated to offer flexible meeting rooms and support spaces, and an 18,600 SF addition features a new 10,000 SF ballroom. The result is an adaptable space that can be manipulated into 18 possible room configurations. The EMC also provides four boardrooms, private dining, a business center, pool, and fitness center.

The hotel remained operational during the transformation, and the existing meeting and banquet rooms remained available for use during design and construction until their scheduled demolition. The project achieved a certification level of Silver under the LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations™ rating system. Sustainable features include:

  • Demand control ventilation (DCV) with CO2 sensors that maintain indoor air quality
  • Exhaust air energy recovery on makeup air units
  • Occupancy sensors and dimmer controls for lighting control
  • Automatic lighting controls that turn off non-essential interior lighting during non-business hours
  • Low watt density lighting that is significantly lower than the ASHRAE 90.1 allowances for both interior and exterior lighting
  • High performance glazing
  • Well-insulated, light-colored roof
