The Inova Lorton Healthplex is a full-service healthcare facility that offers 24-hour emergency, radiology, and laboratory services.
GHT provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering design services for the renovation of the Inova Lorton Bariatric Clinic, a facility offering a range of surgical and nonsurgical bariatric procedures. The clinic features specialized spaces, including consultation rooms, exam rooms, vital rooms, and diet rooms, all thoughtfully designed to support patients undergoing bariatric treatment.
In alignment with healthcare design best practices, GHT used a hybrid approach combining ASHRAE 62.1 and ASHRAE 170 standards to ensure proper ventilation and room pressurization, minimizing the risk of contamination in clean spaces. The project spanned two different shell areas, requiring a phased design and construction approach in coordination with the building’s engineering office.
To meet the clinic’s electrical demands, GHT redesigned the electrical system to accommodate the relocation of a new transformer. Additionally, healthcare-specific plumbing systems were implemented, including ADA-height toilet fixtures with enhanced weight capacity to ensure accessibility and safety for bariatric patients. This project reflects GHT’s commitment to creating functional, safe, and patient-centered healthcare environments.
