GHT’s TAG Members Encourage DC Building Industry Colleagues to Comment on Proposed New DC Construction Codes

Public Comment Period Open Through 5:00 PM EST February 22, 2013

December 7, 2012 – GHT encourages its colleagues in the DC building industry to comment on the proposed new DC construction codes.

In the spring of 2012, the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) initiated an effort to develop new construction codes for the District. The proposed new codes are based on the 2012 International Code Council (ICC) codes (model codes), with amendments drafted by the DCRA’s Construction Codes Coordinating Board (CCCB) and the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) subcommittees, comprised of a diverse group of District officials and design and construction industry professionals.

Today, the DCRA and CCCB published the proposed rulemaking to adopt new construction codes for the District of Columbia. Comments on this proposed rulemaking must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013. More information and links to the model codes and proposed amendments are available on the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) website. The main body of the website provides direct links to the model codes. Below, the Related Documents section provides a record of the proposed amendments to the model codes, on which public comment is encouraged.

Three GHT Principals currently sit on DCRA’s Construction Codes Coordinating Board (CCCB). Patrick Kunze, PE, LEED AP is a voting member of the Green TAG and Frank Becker, PE is a voting member of the Electrical TAG. If you are seeking feedback on the proposed new green or electrical model codes, GHT can help. Contact us for more information.
