Firm Sweeps 2017 Community Leadership Awards
Arlington, VA (August 1, 2017) – GHT Limited (GHT), a leading DC metro area mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering consulting firm, received multiple awards for outstanding achievements at U.S. Green Building Council-National Capital Region’s (USGBC-NCR) 16th Annual A Midsummer Night’s Green event on July 20, 2017. Highlighted more than once throughout last month’s event, GHT collected a total of four awards and an honorable mention.
Their work on Nixon-Peabody, LLP received recognition as Innovative Project of The Year – Interior Design. Their AU-WAMU Radio project received an honorable mention in this category as well. Innovative Project of the Year – Existing Building Performance went to GHT’s project at 650 Massachusetts Avenue, NW where GHT was also recognized for their role on the project team.
For the very first time this year, USGBC-NCR recognized a project for advanced commitment to health and wellness in the built environment. GHT’s American Society of Interior Design (ASID) DC Headquarters, certified Platinum for both Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the WELL Building Standard™ (WELL™), received this new prestigious award. Among DC’s first WELL building certifications, the ASID DC Headquarters was the first space in the world to achieve both WELL and LEED Platinum Level Certifications.
Most notably, Patrick Kunze, Senior Principal of GHT, received the award for Leadership in Government, Advocacy or Policy. This award recognized Patrick for his dedication to making real and meaningful changes at the local level. Patrick spearheaded the District of Columbia’s effort to develop and implement their own green building codes. Patrick holds the DC Mayor’s Certification of Appreciation for his contribution to the Sustainable DC Plan to “make the District the healthiest, greenest, most livable city in the nation.” Patrick’s steadfast dedication to sustainability in building design helps at a government and policy level to better the built environment and earned him the well-deserved honor of this Leadership in Government, Advocacy or Policy award, wrapping up GHT’s winning streak at the annual USGBC-NCR awards event.
