Arlington, VA (June 12, 2017) – GHT Limited (GHT), a leading DC metro area mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering consulting firm, is pleased to announce that our American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Headquarters project has achieved Platinum Level Certifications for both the WELL Building Standard™ (WELL™) under WELL v1 and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), under the LEED ID+C rating system – the highest distinctions awarded by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI™) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The first space in the world to achieve both certifications under the WELL v1 rating system, ASID’s relocated DC headquarters serves as a living laboratory that demonstrates the impact of systems selection, design and the built environment on occupants. With a focus on productivity, engagement, and retention among employees, ASID has set the example as an industry leader in their pursuit of both certifications – demonstrating an unwavering commitment to sustainability and wellness.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this project team that has made enormous strides in both sustainability and our understanding of how design impacts human health,” said Brad McNiff, a WELL Accredited Professional and Project Manager for the ASID DC Headquarters project. “By using performance- and evidence-based systems, we are constantly evolving to engineer spaces which are healthier for occupants and the environment.”
Highlights of the project include:
- Various sensors throughout the space which inform environmental air quality by measuring temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide and particle counts
- Systems that achieve 40% water use reduction, inclusive of an advanced water filtration system with sediment, carbon and ultra-violet filters
- A sophisticated lighting strategy, from automatic daylight harvesting to automatic shade controls and occupancy/vacancy sensors, which eliminates eye strain and other negative ergonomic impacts from glare
Achieving WELL Certification at the Platinum level under WELL v1 on June 9, 2017 and LEED Certified Platinum on January 18, 2017 marks only the beginning of ASID’s evolving journey towards a healthier office environment. Initial feedback from CAPTIW© worksheets, which assess key performance indicators of innovative workplaces, already demonstrate an increase across all parameters, placing the ASID DC Headquarters above benchmark data. Research from Cornell University also points to increased employee and job satisfaction, perceived organizational productivity and perceived support for the organization.
By staying at the forefront of sustainable engineering practices, partnering on the nation’s most innovative projects and working with the IBWI review teams to provide feedback on the WELL Building Standard, GHT Limited continues to demonstrate our commitment to thought leadership in sustainable, efficient and resilient solutions for the built environment.
